The 17th on the 17th

I Can't Stop Loving You - Ray Charles

(I can't stop loving you)
I've made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome times
(I can't stop wanting you)
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday
(Dreams of yesterday)

Those happy hours that we once knew
Tho' long ago, they still make me blue
They say that time heals a broken heart
But time has stood still since we've been apart

(I can't stop loving you)
I've made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times
(I can't stop wanting you)
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday

(Those happy hours)
Those happy hours
(That we once knew)
That we once knew
(Tho' long ago)
Tho' long ago
(Still make me blue)
Still ma-a-a-ake me blue
(They say that time)
They say that time
(Heals a broken heart)
Heals a broken heart
(But time has stood still)
Time has stood still
(Since we've been apart)
Since we've been apart

(I can't stop loving you)
I said I made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome times
(I can't stop wanting you)
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life of dreams of yesterday
(Of yesterday)

What can you do with RM11? Waste it on a crappy show?

I'm blogging at this ungodly hour because I can't sleep. I think I slept too much this afternoon. Arghh... MSK was OK... I made silly mistakes here and there, but most of the paper was 'do-able'. Just hope to pass.

Just came back from watching Ultraviolet with my friends and omigod, WHAT A WASTE OF RM11 THAT WAS! There was hardly any storyline, the action scenes were crap, and it seems that Milla Jovovich's only (hardly) cool power is that she can change colour... After she single-handedly steamrolls an entire goon squad, her hair and clothes will shimmer into another shade of the rainbow... I was like, "What was that for?" The whole movie goes on like that until she kills the big bad guy (who, by the way, dies in a rather pathetic manner). The bad guys either just stand there and get whacked or they end up shooting their own comrades. So dungu only. The whole movie was quite pointless. I have seen plenty of bad movies at the cinema, but this one take the cake. I would rather watch Aeon Flux than this, anytime. But at least I had fun hanging out with my friends. It's been ages since we just sat down and talked.

K la, I should at least try to get some sleep. Good night... or should I say, good morning...

Coconut Tree

Saw this on the way to Seremban Hospital today... Funny how not many people notice this. Maybe I'm just being jakun only. Look carefully...

Look closer.

My uni has been undergoing some major rennovations for the past few months. They're planning to add 2 more floors on top and expand the building. So far, the roof and atrium is gone (now replaced with planks and metal rods for support) and the place floods whenever it rains (got multi-coloured mould growing on the walls already). The library's not a very condusive place for studying now 'cos some pipes are leaking and the workers have started drilling the area....

And today, the encroachment on the 'tranquility' of the place has went to a new level... They've started drilling the walls near the lecture halls. During lectures. Even the lecturer's microphone couldn't fight the noise. Furthermore, it was during an anatomy lecture... Kesian the people who were sitting right next to the wall.

After 3 failed attempts, I finally managed to donate blood! BP was high enough today (100/70). *waves peace sign*

IMU Ball is this coming Saturday. Lo and behold, pimples choose to pop up now! Hardly made any preperations, since I basically have most of the stuff already... To those who are going on Saturday, see you guys there!:)

MSK and Cake Icing

Finally fixed the sidebar. The symbol problem has been partially rectified. That one has to be done slowly over the weeks. In a way, I'm glad I've encountered these problems. It kinda forced me to learn some things bout HTML.:) Goes to show that we should be grateful for even the bad things in life (not all la, some things are just plain bad).

I'm into week 3 of Musculoskeletal System now. So far, things have been busy. Hardly had time to do much thorough reading. It's a little hard to believe, 2 years have past since I entered uni and I'm now a Sem 5 student (so-called 'super-senior'). Don't feel any different though. In Sem 1, I used to admire Sem 3 students. I was like, "Wow! She's studying hematology! Woah... that must be super-tough... How on earth do they get through EOS 3?" Now after Sem 3, it's not like I feel any greater 'cos I know some stuff bout blood. Sem 5 is scary yes, but I'm still pretty blur. It's getting difficult to recall, what more integrate whatever it is we learnt in the previous semesters. Like last Saturday, I didn't know what GA stood for (it stands for General Anaesthetic) and even forgot that hepatitis is one of the side effects of certain drugs... It was a good this that Vee Han remembered that. *blush* Hehe... malu only...somemore EOS 5 is coming soon.

Notice I seldom blog bout deep, serious stuff (like philosophy, politics, views on life). Maybe I'm lazy, maybe it's just difficult to put them down in words. Or maybe I'm in a way, a naturally private person. Guess it would be good to add some more 'serious' stuff here too. One day, one day...

Andrew, Vee Han, Calvin, Seng Kiat and I attended Shing Wei's 21st birthday party last Saturday. Ended up playing a modified version of the "7 Drinking Game". Since we didn't have enough drinks, and since we were too full to eat birthday cake as punishment, the loser got their face painted with cake icing. At first, I kena until quite teruk ('cos I sucked at that game. 3rd year Med student. Hence, necrotized brain cells). Then Andrew 'de-throned' me. Quite embarassing lor, since throughout that time, Shing Wei's dad was at a nearby table drinking with some relatives... Don't know if we gave your 'father-in-law' a good impression, Seng Kiat. But we enjoyed ourselves nevertheless!:P:P:P Thanks, Shing Wei for inviting us! :)

*yawns* Have to go sleep now... Got PBL tomorrow morning..

Update

As you've noticed, I've changed the page layout. Nope, I didn't make this cute little turtle myself. I'm too lazy and incompetent in HTML to do this...yet. Maybe one day I'll come up with my own.:P

Still trying to work out some kinks. The sidebar isn't working properly and some text has been converted into weird symbols... Anyone out there know HTML? Tetsudatte kudasai...onegai...

Now my blog looks a little like a pokemon fansite. -_-"

The Road Not Taken

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Aquaria KLCC

Yay! Yesterday, I finally got to visit Aquaria KLCC with Xian-Nian! Omigod the soft-shelled turtles were so HUGE!!! We were walking down the stairs and could see this large tank at the bottom, and in it were lots of fishes plus helluva big, fat, juicy soft-shelled turtles!!! I nearly squealed with delight. I never knew they could get so big! They were sitting right at the bottom of the tank, so I couldn't really admire the full extent of their hugeness, but yeah, I would say they're at least as big as my computer desk! And there were these cute little pig-snout turtle thingys that were flapping around in some other tanks, and other cute tortoises too!

Oh yeah, there were lots of other wonderful creatures like sharks, fishes, frogs, snakes, sting-rays, more fishes and um...more fishes. They were nice too.

Forget the narration. On with the pictures.:P

P.S. - One more thing, if you go there, be sure to show your student IDs, if you have any. You'll only pay RM20. We didn't know that. Kena sucked of an additional RM8 each. :(

Name: Pancake Tortoise (yes, pancake!:P)
Scientific Name: Malacochersus tornieri
Geographical Range: Southern Kenya and Northern and Eastern Tanzania
Habitat: Rocky hills, outcrops in arid scrub and savanna. Altitudes from 100 to 6,000 feet.

The pancake tortoise is adapted to fitting into tight crevices. Even larger individuals are less than 2 inches high. The shell is so thin and flexible that the plastron moves in and out when the animal breathes. Since the tortoise could easily be torn apart by predators, it relies on its speed and flexibility to escape from dangerous situations. With the reduced weight of the shell, it can move much more quickly than other species.

It was once thought that it could puff its body up with air to wedge itself in place, but this has been found not to be true. Instead, it orients its spiky legs outward so that it is almost impossible to dislodge. This animal can also climb vertically. Because they are so light they can turn themselves over with ease if they fall on their backs.

Probably his favourite moment for the day... browsing through books in Kinokuniya. :P

And here's the helluva huge fat ass turtle! I know it doesn't look big here, cos I took this picture from way up.

CNY Update Part 2

4/2/2006 - Christine's House

I learnt a couple of interesting games there, "In Between" and "Pool". Being new to these games, I naturally had some beginner's luck. So it was all fun and wonderful, but only for a short while.

For those of you who don't know what In Between is, it goes something like this: Everyone puts in a set amount of cash into the pool in the centre of the table. Each player gets 2 cards, both dealt face-up. The two cards represent the upper and lower limits of your 'safe zone'. For example, you get a 2 and a Jack. You can choose to pass or bet for any amount from the pool (e.g. I wanna bet RM2). You will then have to draw a third card, and if that card has a value between your previous two cards (the 2 and Jack), you get to keep the money. If it's outside that range (like an Ace, King or Queen), then you have to pay the amount you bet INTO the pool (in this case you pay RM2). So this is a game or chance and common sense. You wouldn't want to pull a third card is you have a 4 and a 6. But the best part is, if you get a card which has the SAME value as your previous two cards, you pay DOUBLE.

Which was what happened to me and my partner, Vee Vern. Over and over again.

There were some rounds when we got pretty good cards (i.e. an ace and a jack, queen and 2 or something like that). But mana tahu... the pool had some sort of sadistic vendetta, kept making us kena tiang! Against the staggering odds, we kena tiang 4 times during that session. Ended up losing so much in such a short time. Christine, if you ask me, your house deserves to be labelled 'CNY Slaughterhouse 2006'!

*Excerpt of a round of In Between*

LH and VV got King and 4.

VV: So how much you wanna take? Scared la, kena tiang so many times already...
LH: Wait.. see... let's see the chances of us getting a 4 or 2 or 3 or ace. *point point* Neh, there got one 4 came out already, there got a few 3s, and a 2 and ace, the chances of us getting those cards are quite small.
VV: Ok lah, how much??
LH: Uh...
VV: RMXX (forgot how much already)
LH: RMXX
VV: OK! *pulls card*
*Kena tiang* *pay double* *vomit blood*
LH: *dumbstruck for 5 seconds..* AGAIN!!! The pool is out to get us!

The pool started with a small, modest amount, but it grew...

Many freakishly horrible rounds later...

The pool is now big and fat and swollen cash.

*yet another round* LH and VV get a 2 and Queen

VV: Shit! How!!?? I dare not already lah!! Get ace and King also can kena tiang wan!
LH: Uh... I dunno! *damn scared already*
*Both run to the sofa in the hall and cower under the pillows and discuss*
VV: K, if we put 60, then if we kena tiang again, we each have to pay 60.. How bout 30?
LH: 40 lah.
VV: 40? You sure or not?
LH: Screw it lah.
VV: What screw it??!! Don't say screw it!! The first time you said "Screw it", we got screwed, then the next time you said "Screw it" we also got screwed, then the next time you said that, we ALSO got screwed!!! Then this time you say it...
LH: Huhh... *panic*
VV: *panic* Shit!!!
Table: Eh How much you all want??
*embrace in fear and cold sweat*
VV: OK, 1, 2, 3......
VV and LH: 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*silence for 2 seconds, followed by clapping*

VV and LH: *phew*
LH: My hands are shaking.

OK that's it for now. We also visited Calvin's house and enjoyed his famous CNY feast, Seng Kiat's house, mine and Vee Han's place. But I'm a little to lazy to elaborate on those right now (sorry, guys). Calvin's blog has the full details. Check it out if you like. :)

Blogthings

Your Love Life Secrets Are

Looking back on your life, you will only have one true love.

Although you may have been hurt before, you tend to bring very little scars into new relationships.

You expect a lot from your lover - you want the full package. You tend to be very picky.

In fights, you love to debate and defend yourself. You logic prevails - or at least you'd like to think so.

Break-ups can be painful for you, but you never show it. You hold your head high.

Intermission - Another nonsense post

Yes, I know I should be posting CNY Update Part 2 first, furthermore the CNY celebrations are already over. But cannot tahan, wanna post this first.

Earlier in the afternoon, on the way to Taj Curry House, Subang:

LH: In some relationships, there is one partner who is submissive, while the other's dominant. Same goes for gays.

XN: You know Elton John just got married to his boyfriend, David Furnish?

LH: Yeah...

XN: Which one do you think 'gives' and which one 'receives' when they do it?

LH: You mean which is the ass and which is the dick?

XN: Yup...

LH: Uh...

XN: I think Elton John is on the receiving end lor, 'cos in the pictures he's always holding David Furnish's hand *like this* and waving *like this*. It's something like what most girls do also. Quite feminine.

LH: Oh OK... So, I guess that makes Elton John the ass, and David Furnish the dick?

XN: Yup...

By the way, Calvin's created a poll for the "1st Annual Gambling Awards 2006", accessible via the Prefects' Reunion website. Go vote for your favourites! :P

CNY Update Part 1

*Phew* It has been a really busy weekend. Had like a marathon of house visiting going on, with a couple more to go this coming Saturday. As per tradition, we take turns to visit each other's houses during CNY. And AS USUAL, every visit is dominated by gambling.

After reading Calvin's blog, I feel that I should dedicate an entry or two to our little (actually not that little) gambling stints. Cal, you really should rename your blog to "Calvin's Gambling Blog". Then the next day we'll see you sporting a nice, shiny bald head. :P

How to celebrate Chinese New Year (according to our group)
1.Enter house.
2. Say "Gong Xi Fa Cai/Happy New Year".
3. Eat for 30 minutes.
4. Gamble for 5 hours.

*Sigh* Happy, happy days. :)

1/2/2006 – Wednesday - Prequel Session at My Place
Andrew, Calvin, Lawrence (Cal's little brother), Meng Lee and Xian-Nian dropped by my apartment. For some weird reason, I can NEVER win when playing in my own home. Meng Lee robbed us of a grand total of RM320 that night. *Vomits blood* Only Xian-Nian escaped unscathed, with nett winnings of RM1 (better than nothing, or worse, losing) because he was smart enough to go home early...

From that day on, My apartment was labelled "House 320 a.k.a. Leng Hui's House".

3/2/2006 - Friday - Meng Lee's House
A meeting of 5 generations of prefects under one roof - Us (the patriarchs and matriarchs), Vee Hong, Lawrence, Meng Lee's sisters and their prefect friends.
Looking at our juniors, it occurred to me that we really are GROWING OLD. We're gonna be 21 this year, and already I can see the difference between us as our prefect juniors. It has come to a point that when I look at them, I can actually tell that they're in secondary school, and they're much younger than us. I compared some of our old school pictures with more recent ones, and my goodness, we've aged but haven't realised it! Back in form 2, Andrew and Vee Han were SHORTER than me. And in form 5, although that was just slightly over 3 years ago, back then our faces were smoother, less angular and mature, in short, younger.

Time really flies.

Another difference I noticed is that our bets have been growing larger as the years go by. Gone are the days of "50 sen per round of Black Jack" or "10 sen per card in Chor Tai Ti". Wonder how it will be when we start working. :P

Each of us have our distinct gambling styles. Sometimes it's so hilarious to poke fun at them. The following styles apply particularly to Black Jack:
The "CALVIN" - Win already RM10, next round play RM1.
The "VEE HAN" - 16 also pull card.
The "ANDREW" - Plays 2-2 (i.e. places 2 separate bets, RM2 each).
The "LENG HUI" - Quick and efficient. Takes card and looks at it straightaway.
The "SENG KIAT" - Uh... what's your style ah?:P:P

And last but not least, The "MENG LEE"
- Takes card, covers it with a previous card
- KISSES card *Damn serious face*
- Brings card closer to his face, slowly, slowly, slowly, SLOWLY slides the card open, millimetre by millimetre

*Everyone goes for toilet break*

- Everyone comes back, he's still sliding the card open
- Slowly, Slowly......*sweat dripping already*
- Throws card on table and announces the result.

And there you have it. Part 1 of the CNY Update.

Some of you may be wondering what is this picture here. It may look like an innocent, juicy mandarin orange, but DO NOT BE FOOLED! Stay tuned for the "TALE OF THE DREADED POOL", coming up next!

Tang Yuan

Should have posted this up a long time ago...

It was a few days before the Reproductive System Summative (somewhere back in December). My grandmother and sister were making some tang yuan. Was sick and tired of reading the same set of lecture notes over and over again (without even remembering what I read) so I joined in the fun...

My sister, Kah Men and Grandma. :)

*Pre-summative Stress Reliever* - Burning tang yuans on a toothpick. My sisters were thoroughly amused. So old already but still so jakun.

Actually, I didn't really help much. Kept making weird heart-shaped and turtle-shaped tang yuans instead of the normal, proper round ones. Grandma did most of the work. -_-"

The fruits of our labour.
