Homeward bound

It's finally over. 5 years of med school, 4 weeks of anxiety and torture and now I taste sweet freedom again. I was hoping to feel more exhilarated. The numbness is wearing off, but I still can't forgive myself. I knew what had to be done, I've been through it before. But at the moment of truth I stumbled, my nerves got the better of me. I know, one shouldn't harp on "I wish" and "if only"s. So I'm going to put it all aside until the 10th of December. In the meantime, I'm going enjoy the company of my friends and family. And I'm going to pray very very hard.

Happy holidays everyone.

Omigosh this is so true!

You Are Cheerios

Like other Cheerios eaters, you want to be a responsible adult.

But you can't help but still be a kid at heart!

You try to make good decisions. You're a clean cut, conscientious person.

You're the type of person who would never skip breakfast.

Part of you thinks that breakfast is too important to miss...

But a bigger part of you knows it's too fun to miss!

What Kind of Cereal Are You?

I went through 3 boxes of 750gm Cheerios during the entire Swotvac month. If I collected all the Cheerio boxes from these 2 years, I would be able to make a cardboard car.

Day 1 of the last exam of my medical student life begins tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'll need it.

Where The Wild Roses Grow - Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Eliza Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Eliza Day

From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
She stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild

When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Eliza Day
Why they call me that I do not know
For my name was Eliza Day

On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I've seen
I said: "Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?"

On the second day he came with a single red rose
He said: "Give me your loss and your sorrow?"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
"If I show you the roses will you follow?"

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Eliza Day
Why they call me that I do not know
For my name was Eliza Day

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
She lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye, said "All beauty must die"
And I lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Eliza Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Eliza Day

My name was Eliza Day...

For my name was Eliza Day....

How to make your stomach happy on a warm Swotvac afternoon

Lazy Student Sandwich (preparation time: 5 mins)

Ingredients: 2 slices wholegrain bread, lean leg ham, 1/4 medium avocado, baby spinach & rocket leaves, 1 slice of cheese (stolen from housemate).

Instructions: Toast bread. Pile ingredients on bread to desired height. No need for butter as the avocado slices substitute that. Serve with a cup of hot tea or Boost.

....I'm just crapping lah. Nothing better to do like that. Avocados rock btw. Been having them in my sandwiches for the past few weeks. Can't use too much though as they're really high in fat (albeit monounsaturated, but still).

P.S. - HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW & VEE HAN!!! (always the double birthday wish) :P It was so good to have a nice long chat with you after so long, Vee Han. And Andrew we'll be partying like no tomorrow come December. Love from down under. =)

Was sitting in a cafe eating pizza with Ken when the results of U.S. presidential election results came out on TV. As everyone knows, Barack Obama is now the 44th president of the United States. Looks like it's going to be an interesting time ahead for America. Didn't really follow all the news and campaigning (not a big fan of politics), but I'm really happy Obama won. Now if only something significant could happen back home... and I'm not talking about adding another fiasco to the circus of stupidity and ignorance we already have...

Gail Sorronda

Love this white dress by Gail Sorronda for Target. This would be closest I'd get to owning any of her creations, considering her clothes are so freakin' expensive!!! AUD500 for a dress? You've got to be kidding me. The Target range was a whole lot cheaper (AUD 19 on sale?) but I found out about it after the clearance sale was over. Oh well. I least managed to get a pinafore and skirt (which I wore to death in hospital) and one of the black dresses. This was wayyy earlier in the year by the way. Don't have much to blog about now (unless you wanna hear more rants about the impending finals) so I shall share my passion for fashion with you.:P Here are a few photos I got off the Gail Sorronda website.

This is from her latest collection of Spring/summer 2009: Seventeen Crushes Crushed into One. Maybe it's the model but it kept giving me a New Orleans/French Quarter feel.

Autumn/winter 2008: White Knight.

Her designs are quite quirky, but so distinctively her. And all her collections (except the Target one of course) comprises of only black and white. Spring/summer 2008: Bird of Prey.

Spring/summer 2007: Riders of the Storm.

Spring/summer 2006: Angel at My Table.

I keep telling myself one sweet day, I'm going to be rich and successful enough to own clothes like these and not feel guilty. Heh. By the time that happens (if it happens), I'm probably going to be too old and out of shape to wear anything but a mumu. -_-"

Check out more of her collections at http://gailsorronda.com/

Dinner at Gusto

The villagers, Ken and I decided to take one night off to celebrate completing all our hospital rotations for the year. A little bit of relaxation and get-together before the month-long torturous study break which we call Swotvac. This was over a week ago. Now it's halfway though week 2 of swotvac and honestly, a month doesn't seem enough. -_-" Anyways it was good to meet up with them again. Company is always good in the face of adversity.

Gusto is an italian restaurant on the Parade, Norwood. Supposedly famous for their blue swimmer crab pasta. Tried that once. Not bad.

Jenna, Jebbrine and Christine.

Shiau Cern's fiance, Matthew came to visit. =)

Me with Chuen and Jenna.

Christine and Chris a.k.a. (Chris)2

A bowl of olives which Ken and I ordered while waiting... I love olives but this was a bit much.

The toppings for pizza a bit kiam siap. But otherwise good.

Overall the food was not bad... portions were small for Aussie standards and perhaps a little over-priced.

Right then.. This week's goal is to finish reading paediatrics! *Lets out a battle cry* Bring it on 5th year finals! I'm not going down without a fight!!!
